UFC Vegas 39 video: Mariya Agapova crushes Sabina Mazo with brutal right hook, finishes with rear-naked choke

Mariya Agapova looked much improved in her latest win after submitting Sabina Mazo in the third round at UFC Vegas 39.
After her conditioning failed to keep her going in her previous fight, Agapova was a tactician against Mazo, displaying remarkable control and timing with her combinations. Following a strong start through the first two rounds, Agapova ended the fight after crushing Mazo with a brutal right hook and then immediately snatching the rear-naked choke to get the submission a split second later.
The end came at just 53 seconds into the third round.
“It was the game plan from my coach,” Agapova said about her win. “Thank you so much for my coach. I got to a very bad situation before my fight financially and all my friends were helping me. Sabina is a very tough opponent. She did a very good.”
Showing increased patience and timing, Agapova was precise with her strikes as Mazo was moving forward but eating a lot of shots from the outside. Agapova was leading with power in her hands then following it up with a number of lightning quick kicks.
Agapova was particularly sharp with her counterstriking as she took full advantage of Mazo charging forward yet not really presenting any serious danger on the feet. During nearly every exchange, Agapova was just razor sharp and deadly accurate with her punches as Mazo always seemed to be a step behind when she was throwing her own strikes.
After timing Mazo’s offense all fight long, Agapova threw the right hook that nearly earned her a knockout as she sent the Colombian flyweight down to the canvas. Without throwing another punch, Agapova just latched onto the rear naked choke and Mazo tapped out almost immediately.
Following a disappointing loss in her last fight, Agapova looked better than ever on Saturday and now she’s looking to settle a rivalry with a former teammate who made some inflammatory accusations against her in recent months.
“I would like to call [out] Maryna Moroz,” Agapova said, “because she talked sh*t about me in an interview.”
