World Cup Qualifying marches on and Mexico can qualify with a victory over Honduras Sunday if they get a little help. Even after only picking up a point against the United States, all Mexico needs is to better Costa Rica’s result to qualify. A Mexico loss or draw with a Panama win will delay qualification for another day but even if Mexico ends qualification tied with tone of those two teams, El Tri have the heavy advantage due to superior goal difference.

The question then, after chants of “Fuera Tata” rained down at the Azteca during the side’s draw with the United States, is will the pressure prove to be too much for El Tri in a match that they should win?

Here’s our storylines, how you can watch the match and more:

How to watch and odds

  • Date: Sunday, March 27 | Time: 7:05 p.m. ET
  • Location: Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano — San Pedro Sula, Honduras
  • Live stream: Paramount+
  • Odds: Honduras +750; Draw +320; Mexico -265 (via Caesars Sportsbook)

Storylines

Honduras: Already eliminated from World Cup qualifying, Honduras didn’t let that stop them from also dealing a massive blow to Panama securing a draw on Thursday. Honduras has struggled during this cycle and sit at the bottom of the Octagonal but they could relish the spoiler role while welcoming a Mexico side that has struggled to score to their home stadium. As the only winless team in the region, they’ll want to ensure that doesn’t continue while facing Mexico.

Listen below and follow In Soccer We Trust: A CBS Sports Soccer Podcast where three times a week your three favorite former USMNT players cover everything you could possibly want to know about the beautiful game in the United States.

Mexico: This is a game that Mexico should win with ease but those are the matches that El Tri has struggled in during qualifiers. With only two away victories in the Octagonal — both of which were versus teams that went down a man — Honduras can’t be written off before the match starts. Mexico will need more out of Hirving Lozano as his frustration versus the United States was visible but if their defense doesn’t do better in this match Romell Quioto will find his way on the scoresheet.

Prediction

Mexico ultimately gets the job done but it’s not an easy road by any means facing Honduras. Pick: Honduras 0, Mexico 1
