The San Jose State Spartans are on the road again Thursday and play against the California Baptist Lancers at 10 p.m. ET Nov. 18 at CBU Events Center. California Baptist will be strutting in after a victory while the Spartans will be stumbling in from a defeat.
The contest between SJSU and the Stanford Cardinal on Monday was not a total blowout, but with SJSU falling 76-62 on the road, it was darn close to turning into one. Omari Moore (21 points) was the top scorer for SJSU.
Meanwhile, California Baptist strolled past the Jackson State Tigers with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 77-64.
SJSU is the clear underdog, so they’re hoping it’s the size of the fight that determines this one. However, those who like betting on the underdog should be happy to hear that they are 2-0 against the spread when expected to lose.
The Spartans are now 1-1 while the Lancers sit at 3-0. A pair of last-season stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: SJSU has allowed their opponents to shoot 50.90% from the floor on average, which is the second highest shooting percentage allowed in college basketball. California Baptist’s offense has more to brag about, as they they enter the matchup with a 47.50% field goal percentage, good for 26th best in college basketball. So the cards are definitely stacked in their favor.
