NFL DFS, Chiefs vs. Chargers: DraftKings, FanDuel daily Fantasy football picks for Thursday Night Football
Written by ABC Audio ALL RIGHTS RESERVED on December 15, 2021
Thursday Night Football will feature Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs visiting Justin Herbert and the Chargers in a pivotal AFC West battle. While Mahomes may be the first name you think of when it comes to NFL DFS picks, Herbert is actually having the better season. He has more yards and touchdowns than Mahomes and ranks third among all QBs in Fantasy points on both DraftKings and FanDuel. Should Herbert anchor your NFL DFS lineups and NFL DFS stacks?
Even without Keenan Allen in Week 14, Herbert set a season-high in passer rating and rewarded those who slotted him into their NFL DFS lineups. Mahomes was no slouch either last week with 258 passing yards and two scores, but which stud QB should you favor in Thursday’s NFL DFS player pool? Before locking in your NFL DFS picks for Chargers vs. Chiefs, be sure to check out the NFL DFS advice, strategy and projections from SportsLine daily Fantasy expert Mike McClure.
McClure is a legendary professional DFS player with almost $2 million in career winnings. His methodology has led to enormous cashes on FanDuel and DraftKings. He took down two high-stakes tournaments on FanDuel in 2020 and recorded a pair of top-10 finishes in tournaments with over 130,000 entrants on DraftKings. His lineups also finished inside the top 1 percent in more than a dozen other tournaments last season.
He uses a powerful prediction model that simulates every snap of NFL action, taking factors such as matchups, statistical trends and injuries into account. This allows him to find the best DFS values that he shares only with members at SportsLine.
Now, McClure has turned his attention to Chiefs vs. Chargers and locked in his top daily Fantasy football picks. You can only see them by heading to SportsLine.
Top NFL DFS picks for Chargers vs. Chiefs
One of McClure’s top NFL DFS picks for Thursday Night Football is Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert. There’s a common saying that you’re only as good as your last performance, and Herbert’s last outing was exceptional. He had 275 passing yards, three TDs and no turnovers in a rout of the Giants. Herbert now only trails Tom Brady in QBR.
Herbert’s only better game than last week came in his first meeting with the Chiefs in September. He had a four-touchdown game and has gotten the better of Kansas City the last two times he’s faced the Chiefs. Herbert also accounted for four TDs when he saw Kansas City in Week 17 of last season, as the second-year pro has 10 total TDs in three games against the Chiefs. Kansas City is allowing the fourth-most Fantasy points to opposing QBs this year, so look for Herbert to continue his success against it.
Part of McClure’s optimal NFL DFS strategy also includes rostering Chiefs receiver Tyreek Hill, who ranks third in receptions (90), sixth in receiving yards (1,030) and fifth in receiving touchdowns (eight). Hill’s 90 grabs are already a career-high and he’s on pace for 117, which would be a franchise record.
Hill had 76 receiving yards in Week 14 despite playing his fewest snaps of the season while the Chiefs easily handled the Raiders. He’s had at least 67 yards from scrimmage in all but three games this year since Mahomes is using him as a check-down option and a deep threat. Six different receivers have posted at least 85 yards versus the Chargers over the last six weeks, and Hill stands the best chance of reaching that mark on Thursday Night Football.
