Despite interest from U.S. Soccer for the vacant managerial position, Hoffenheim head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo has confirmed that he will be staying at the club. It’s a critical time as the American manager will have a chance to lead Hoffenheim in the Europa League, their first appearance in a European competition since the 2020-21 season.

“It is extremely important to create clarity and calm in this turbulent phase. I am proud to be the coach of this team and am very much looking forward to competing with the boys in European competition in the new season,” Matarazzo said. “I am convinced that with the right additions to the squad we will have another successful season.”

Since dismissing Gregg Berhalter from the role as USMNT head coach in July, sporting director Matt Crocker has been searching for a replacement with names such as Jurgen Klopp and now Matarazzo garnering interest. It’ll be back to the drawing board again for U.S. Soccer but there’s still no shortage of suitable candidates.

In a search like this, it’s important to leave no stone unturned even if a manager may seem unattainable or is currently with a club as the worst that can be said when asking is no. The USMNT is back in action in September against Canada and New Zealand.
