The #14 Houston Cougars have enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they must head out on the road. Houston and the Memphis Tigers will face off in an American Athletic battle at noon ET on Sunday at FedExForum. These two teams seek to continue their momentum from their previous wins.
The Temple Owls typically have all the answers at home, but on Thursday the Cougars proved too difficult a challenge. Houston put a hurting on the Owls at home to the tune of 84-46. Houston was heavily favored coming into this contest, and the results showcase why. Forward Fabian White Jr. and guard Jamal Shead were among the main playmakers for Houston as the former had 26 points in addition to six boards and the latter posted a double-double on 13 assists and ten points.
Meanwhile, Memphis was able to grind out a solid win over the South Florida Bulls on Thursday, winning 73-64. Five players on the Tigers scored in the double digits: center Jalen Duren (16), guard Tyler Harris (14), guard Alex Lomax (12), guard Lester Quinones (11), and forward DeAndre Williams (11).
The Cougars are now 26-4 while Memphis sits at 18-9. Two numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: Houston enters the matchup with 5.4 blocked shots per game on average, good for 12th best in college basketball. But Memphis is even better: they come into the game boasting the fifth most blocked shots per game in college basketball at 5.9. Points in the paint might be hard to come by.
