What to Know
After two games on the road, the Northern Iowa Panthers are heading back home. The Panthers and the Missouri State Bears will face off in a Missouri Valley battle at 2 p.m. ET Sunday at McLeod Center. Northern Iowa is out to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
Northern Iowa sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 72-70 victory over the Illinois State Redbirds last week. Northern Iowa relied on the efforts of guard AJ Green, who had 20 points in addition to six rebounds, and forward Noah Carter, who had 23 points. Carter’s performance made up for a slower matchup against the Loyola Chicago Ramblers last week.
Meanwhile, MSU beat the Indiana State Sycamores 79-70 last Tuesday. Forward Gaige Prim took over for MSU, finishing with 32 points (a whopping 41% of their total) along with 11 boards.
Barring any buzzer beaters, the Panthers are expected to win a tight contest. But bettors beware: they are only 5-12 against the spread when favored.
Northern Iowa got away with an 85-84 win in the teams’ previous meeting in January. Will they repeat their success, or do the Bears have a better game plan this time around? We’ll find out soon enough.
