Written by luck on October 20, 2021
Another full lineup of college football action is in store for CBS Sports Network during Week 8 with seven games spanning three days as conference title races continue heating up and the stakes for everyone increase. Among those in action will be two of the remaining 11 undefeated FBS teams, as No. 16 Wake Forest goes to Army on Saturday and No. 22 San Diego State plays at Air Force.
But the action gets started Thursday, when FAU travels to Charlotte for a battle between Conference USA East contenders. Later in the evening, a pair of Mountain West teams in need of wins square off as San Jose State travels to UNLV. Two more games comes Friday with Middle Tennessee playing at UConn and Colorado State traveling to Utah State.
Finally, Saturday brings a tripleheader beginning at noon ET with the Demon Deacons trying to avoid their first loss of the season in a tricky spot against Army. Then, Western Michigan travels to Toledo in the afternoon before the Aztecs put their unbeaten mark on the line at Air Force.
Here is the full rundown of all the Week 8 action on CBS Sports Network with all times Eastern.
FAU at Charlotte

Spread: FAU -7 | Will the Owls cover the spread? Check out SportsLine’s Week 8 college football projections here.
Storylines: FAU rallied from a 10-point deficit to beat Charlotte 21-17 last year in Willie Taggart’s first game as Owls coach. The victory also included a late defensive stand for FAU. Charlotte will be seeking revenge and trying to remain the last team in the C-USA East to be unbeaten in league play.
San Jose State at UNLV
Date: Thursday, Oct. 21 | Time: 11:00 p.m.
Location: Allegiant Stadium — Las Vegas, Nevada
TV: CBS Sports Network [Channel finder]
Live stream: CBSSports.com | Mobile: CBS Sports App
Spread: San Jose State -5 | Will the Spartans cover the spread? Check out SportsLine’s Week 8 college football projections here.
Storylines: The home team has won the last four meetings in this series, which is good news for UNLV as the winless Rebels welcome their Mountain West division foe to town. Of UNLV’s six losses, four have come by eight points or less, and the Rebels are due a break.
Middle Tennessee at UConn
Date: Friday, Oct. 22 | Time: 6 p.m.
Location: Pratt & Whitney Stadium — East Hartford, Connecticut
TV: CBS Sports Network [Channel finder]
Live stream: CBSSports.com | Mobile: CBS Sports App
Spread: Middle Tennessee -15.5 | Will the Blue Raiders cover the spread? Check out SportsLine’s Week 8 college football projections here.
Storylines: UConn finally got its first victory last week when it knocked off FCS foe Yale 21-15. This week brings a great opportunity for the Huskies to get their first win over an FBS opponent as they host a 2-4 MTSU squad. Though their season has been disappointing thus far, the Blue Raiders do have an upset win against Marshall on their resume.
Colorado State at Utah State
Date: Friday, Oct. 22 | Time: 9:30 p.m.
Location: Maverik Stadium — Logan, Utah
TV: CBS Sports Network [Channel finder]
Live stream: CBSSports.com | Mobile: CBS Sports App
Spread: Colorado State -3.5 | Will the Rams cover the spread? Check out SportsLine’s Week 8 college football projections here.
Storylines: Colorado State began the season with losses to FCS opponent South Dakota State and lowly Vanderbilt. But the Rams have rebounded nicely and are 2-0 in Mountain West play. Now they travel to take on a 4-2 Utah State team that is playing well in its first season under coach Blake Anderson after a 1-5 campaign in 2020.
Wake Forest at Army
Date: Saturday, Oct. 16 | Time: Noon
Location: Michie Stadium — West Point, New York
TV: CBS Sports Network [Channel finder]
Live stream: CBSSports.com | Mobile: CBS Sports App
Spread: Wake Forest -3 | Will the Demon Deacons cover the spread? Check out SportsLine’s Week 8 college football projections here.
Storylines: Army snapped a nine-game losing streak against Wake Forest with a victory over the Demon Deacons in 2016. Now the Black Knights will seek to make it two in a row against their ACC foe in a battle of contrasting styles. Unbeaten Wake Forest airs it out, averaging 270.5 pass yards per game. Army does nearly all its work on the ground and should challenge a Wake Forest defense that gives up 173.8 rushing yards per game.
Western Michigan at Toledo
Date: Saturday, Oct. 23 | Time: 3:30 p.m.
Location: Glass Bowl Stadium — Toledo, Ohio
TV: CBS Sports Network [Channel finder]
Live stream: CBSSports.com | Mobile: CBS Sports App
Spread: Western Michigan -2.5 | Will the Broncos cover the spread? Check out SportsLine’s Week 8 college football projections here.
Storylines: Western Michigan won this game 41-38 last season on a fake-spike play that turned into a touchdown pass with 17 seconds left. It was one of the more remarkable plays of the 2020 football season, and it was the second year in a row these teams played down to the wire. Toledo is just 3-4, but the Rockets’ last two losses came by a combined five points, and they are capable of playing 5-2 Western Michigan close again.
San Diego State at Air Force
Date: Saturday, Oct. 23 | Time: 7 p.m.
Location: Falcon Stadium — Colorado Springs, Colorado
TV: CBS Sports Network [Channel finder]
Live stream: CBSSports.com | Mobile: CBS Sports App
Spread: Air Force -3.5 | Will the Falcons cover the spread? Check out SportsLine’s Week 8 college football projections here.
Storylines: If you’re a fan of low-scoring defensive struggles, this is a must-watch. San Diego State is 7-0 and ranked 10th nationally in scoring defense by allowing just 16 points per game. Air Force is 6-1 and ranked 12th nationally in the same category while allowing just 16.3 points per game. The Aztecs have won eight straight in the series, but the last three were decided by a combined 11 points.
