Cameron Rising injury: Utah star QB questionable to return vs. Baylor after appearing to hurt hand

NCAA Football: Baylor at Utah

Utah quarterback Cameron Rising left the game against Baylor in the first half with a hand injury. The Utes lead the Bears 23-3 at halftime of the nonconference matchup in Salt Lake City, Utah. Utah coach Kyle Whittingham listed Rising as questionable heading into the second half.

Rising was running out of bounds while getting chased by a Baylor defender and tried to throw the ball away. He lost control and ran into the sideline cooler and quickly grasped his throwing hand. Rising needed an X-ray on his hand after the play, according to KSL

Backup quarterback Isaac Wilson came into the game in Rising’s place. The brother of former BYU quarterback Zach Wilson threw two interceptions in his first action against Southern Utah in Week 1. He was rated the No. 21 overall quarterback and a four-star recruit in the Class of 2024.

Rising missed the entire 2023 season with a torn ACL. When Rising is in the lineup, the Utes are one of the top programs in the country. Rising is 20-5 as a starting quarterback with two Pac-12 championships. He completed 8 of 14 passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns in the first half against Baylor.

Utah held Baylor to only 48 total yards in the first half, but a targeting call helped set up a field goal for the Bears to get points on the board.

CBS Sports will keep this story updated as more becomes available on Rising’s condition.
