Contenders seeking their second-ever Grand Slam title clash in the men’s singles semifinals at Wimbledon 2023 as top-ranked Carlos Alcaraz of Spain takes on third-ranked Daniil Medvedev on Friday at 10:30 a.m. ET at Centre Court of the All England Club in Wimbledon, England. Alcaraz, 20, who has 11 career titles, has reached the semifinals at Wimbledon for the first time, after reaching the semifinals at last month’s French Open. His previous best showing at the All England Club was last year, when he reached the fourth round. Medvedev, 27, has 20 career titles and has also advanced past the fourth round at Wimbledon for the first time.
Caesars Sportsbook lists Alcaraz as the -250 favorite (risk $250 to win $100) on the money line, while Medvedev is at +190 in the latest 2023 Wimbledon odds. The over/under for total games is 39.5. Before making any 2023 Wimbledon picks, be sure to check out the latest tennis predictions from proven SportsLine tennis handicapper Jose Onorato.
Onorato grew up playing competitive tennis in Caracas, Venezuela. After coming to the United States, he trained with famed coach Nick Bollettieri at IMG Academy in Florida and faced players like Robert Farah, now one of the world’s top-ranked doubles players. Onorato, who holds dual degrees in finance and economics from the University of Miami, does extensive research before placing any tennis bets. He studies current form, a player’s tendencies on a particular surface, weather conditions and many other relevant factors. That systematic approach helped Onorato go 96-67-7 — up 60.42 units — in 2022.
Now, Onorato has locked in on the 2023 Wimbledon men’s semifinal matchup featuring Medvedev vs. Alcaraz and revealed his best bets. He’s sharing all of his picks and analysis at SportsLine.
Top Medvedev vs. Alcaraz predictions
Onorato sees both players as being very similar, with both having won the last two U.S. Open titles. After winning the 2022 U.S. Open, Alcaraz was absent from the Australian Open, but made a run at the French Open last month, reaching the semifinals. In two career appearances at Wimbledon, Alcaraz is 9-2, and is 14-2 on grass all-time. Since 2018, he has posted a 213-55 (79.5%) career mark.
Alcaraz first reached No. 1 in single last September and has moved back into the top spot as of June 26. He is coming off a 7-6 (3), 6-4, 6-4 win over Holger Rune in the quarterfinals. He had been tested in his previous two matches. In the fourth round, he outlasted Matteo Berrettini 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3, and had beaten Nicolas Jarry 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3, 7-5 in the third round.
Medvedev won his lone Grand Slam at the 2021 U.S. Open, and has been runner-up in three others. He was second at the U.S. Open in 2019, and second at the Australian Open in both 2021 and 2022. After disappointing showings at this year’s Australian Open and French Open, he is poised to make another title run. He bowed out in the third round of the Australian Open, and in the first round in Paris.
But he has been sharp at Wimbledon, improving to 7-2 on grass this year and 50-21 in his career. He is coming off an epic performance against American Christopher Eubanks in the Wimbledon quarterfinals on Wednesday. After taking the first set 6-4, he dropped the next two, 6-1, 6-4, before rallying for a 7-6 (4) win in the fourth set. He then dominated the fifth set, 6-1. He had only needed four sets once in his previous four matches en route to the semifinals. See who to pick here.
