It’s bound to be another tight one this week on the PGA Tour when the 2021 Shriners Children’s Open tees off Thursday at TPC Summerlin. The past two tournaments in Las Vegas have finished at 23-under par, and both went to a playoff. Martin Laird won on second extra hole last year for his second Shriners title, and he also has a runner-up finish. Sam Burns won last week at the Sanderson Farms Championship in Mississippi and is among the favorites this week. Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler are the 22-1 co-favorites in the latest 2021 Shriners Children’s Open odds at Caesars Sportsbook, with Burns and Brooks Koepka in a group not far behind at 25-1.

This week in Las Vegas, Gates is all in with Hovland. The 24-year-old already has two tour wins and tied for fifth at the season-ending Tour Championship last month. He also won the BMW International Open in Munich this summer. This is his first appearance at the Shriners, but he finished T-12 in Vegas at the CJ Cup last season and is the world’s 14th-ranked player. He had three top-five finishes last season, including a victory. He was ninth in scoring average (69.888) and averaged 4.4 birdies per round (sixth), and he went 36 under during his last three events.
On the other hand, Gates is fading Koepka, who doesn’t crack the Fantasy expert’s top five. The 31-year-old had a strong season despite major knee surgery in February and finished in the top six in three majors. But he can lose focus in lesser events, and he has two top-five finishes and three missed cuts at Summerlin. He was 2-2-0 at the Ryder Cup but was outside the top 25 in two of his last three events before he withdrew from the Tour Championship with an injury.
