The 2023 Met Gala took place Monday, with a theme honoring the late Karl Lagerfeld. Though Nicki Minaj skipped out on the event, she shared an Instagram post that included photos of her with the Chanel designer and dressed in some of his designs.
“I set trends from Queens to Beijing,” Nicki captioned it. “I’m not the one who do the imitating.” She then revealed that her music video for “Alone” will release Tuesday, May 2, at 4 p.m. ET.
Nicki and Karl were friends and worked together in 2018 when they did an Elle photoshoot. When the designer passed the following year, she honored him on Instagram, writing, “My biggest fashion inspiration is gone. Can’t quite put my feelings into words. Dear Karl, you made a little girl from Queens want to be glamorous. I prayed I’d get to work with you b4 one of us left this earth, thank you for making my dreams come true.”
“You are the best to ever do it. Genius. Icon. Game changer,” she continued. “Can’t imagine the fashion world w/o you. Rest In Peace. Legends never die.#ChanelForever#FendiPrintsOnForever.”
