Months after making history as the first female hip-hop artist nominated to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Missy Elliott has been announced as part of this year’s 2023 class. The rapper will be inducted in the HOF’s performer category, which honors artists whose music impacted and influenced the course of rock ‘n’ roll.
DJ Kool Herc will receive the Musical Influence Award for creating music that’s “directly influenced, inspired, and evolved rock & roll and music impacting youth culture.”
Chaka Khan is among those being inducted in the Musical Excellence Award category, and Don Cornelius will be honored with the Ahmet Ertegun Award, which goes to “non-performing industry professionals who have had a major influence on the creative development and growth of rock & roll and music that has impacted youth culture.”
Missy’s forthcoming induction comes in her first year of being on the ballot. The ceremony will take place November 3 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
