French Montana sued over music video shooting

French Montana is facing a lawsuit over the shooting that took place at his music video taping in January. Rolling Stone reports Carl Leon, who was injured in the incident, is suing the rapper. He contends the shooting was a “preventable, foreseeable incident.”

In the lawsuit filed Monday, Carl claims French and his team did not “properly plan and conduct the music video production in a safe manner.” He notes the label failed to acquire correct permits for the shoot — which “would have ensured that proper police presence and security would be present” — and adds “they consciously ignored the extreme risks of harm to its participants.”

French had been celebrating his Coke Boys 6 mixtape and filming his “Igloo” music video outside the The Licking restaurant in Miami Gardens when a shooting took place, injuring multiple people on set. The publication reports he’d moved to that location following a “prior altercation and robbery.”

“It was an extremely unfortunate situation that led to multiple people suffering serious injuries,” Leon’s attorney Josiah Graham tells Rolling Stone. “The most egregious thing is that people were beaten up and robbed at this video shoot and the [production] did not shut down.”

“Montana continued to video shoot, moved it across the street, and those assailants returned and shot the place up,” he adds. “Things like that should not be able to go on.”

Carl, who is suffering “great bodily injury, pain, mental anguish, and loss of the capacity for the enjoyment of life,” is seeking $50,000 in addition to legal fees.

Coke Boys Records, Miami Finga Licking and Gayles Plaza are also named in the suit.
