2021 MLB playoffs: Braves vs. Brewers odds, NLDS Game 3 picks, predictions from proven computer model

Written by on October 11, 2021

Pitching has been the story of the 2021 National League Division Series between the Milwaukee Brewers and Atlanta Braves so far, with the teams combining for a total of six runs in the first two games. Each starting pitcher has worked six innings, while just one run has been scored in 11 combined frames against the bullpens. The Braves hope to gain the upper hand in this 2021 MLB playoffs series when they host the Brewers as the series shifts to Atlanta for Game 3 on Monday afternoon. Atlanta was edged 2-1 at Milwaukee in the opener but bounced back to even the best-of-five matchup with a 3-0 victory in Game 2.

First pitch at Truist Field is scheduled for 1:07 p.m. ET. Atlanta sends right-hander Ian Anderson (9-5, 3.58 ERA) to the mound against fellow right-hander Freddy Peralta (10-5, 2.81). Both teams are listed at -105 (risk $105 to win $100) on the money line in the latest Braves vs. Brewers odds from Caesars Sportsbook, while the over-under for total runs scored is eight. Why you should back the Braves

Anderson has yet to lose since returning from shoulder inflammation in late August, going 3-0 in six starts. The 23-year-old won his only career turn against the Brewers on May 15, when he allowed just one run and two hits over six innings at Milwaukee. After making the first six starts of his major-league career during the 2020 regular season, Anderson was called upon in the playoffs and did not disappoint.

He won his first two outings against Cincinnati and Miami, permitting five hits while registering 17 strikeouts over 11 2/3 scoreless innings. Anderson then had a pair of no-decisions against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL Championship Series as he worked four scoreless innings in Game 2 before allowing two runs over three frames in Game 7. Atlanta’s bullpen has been superb, scattering five hits and recording six strikeouts over five scoreless innings.

Why you should back the Brewers

Milwaukee’s relief corps also has performed well through two games, giving up just one run and four hits over six innings. The Brewers were outstanding during the regular season on the road, where they posted a 50-31 record to set the franchise mark for wins away from home. Only the San Francisco Giants were better on the road, going 53-28.

The Brewers have registered only 11 hits in the series, but a pair of players have notched two apiece. Willy Adames is the only member of the club with a hit in both contests and has one of Milwaukee’s two extra-base hits (double, Game 2), while third baseman Luis Urias went 2-for-4 in Saturday’s 3-0 loss after remaining on the bench in the series opener. Rowdy Tellez, who hit seven of his 11 homers this season after being acquired from Toronto in July, has hit the Brewers’ lone shot of the NLDS — a two-run blast en route to a 2-1 victory in Game 1.
