Lil Durk‘s Almost Healed album comes out on Friday, but there’s also a version of the project he’s chosen not to release. Speaking to Akademiks on his Off the Record podcast, he revealed Kanye West produced his entire album, but he decided against using that rendition despite his “genius” contributions.
“He actually did my whole album. But I ain’t use it,” Durk said. “He, like, tweaked with the beat, he put some vocals behind some beats. He played with a couple records. I’ma say that he played with a couple records … He did some genius s***.”
“I had went to the hotel where he was at. He was actually in a good head space,” he continued. “I guess all the bulls*** that was going on with him was getting to him, but he definitely in a good space.”
Durk teased the release of the Kanye-produced version as a potential deluxe edition of Almost Healed.
“I’m trying to see if I can come back with some genius s*** with it, man, and double my sales,” he said.
Lil Durk was slated to appear on Ye’s Donda, but changed his mind after he walked into the studio to record his verse and ran into Chicago rival Rooga; he decided he didn’t want to be part of the 2021 album.
“It wasn’t never like, ‘F*** him for life,’” Durk explained. “I had a conversation with him afterwards and he was like, ‘I want to bring the peace back to Chicago. I want to do this, do this, do that.’ And I had to tell him, ‘It ain’t easy like you think.’ When s*** happen behind certain s***, it’s not that easy. So I still talk to him.”
Durk’s video for “Therapy Session / Pelle Coat” with Alicia Keys is out now.
