Kenny Pickett, Pittsburgh Steelers: The former Pitt Panther will stay local after being a first-round pick by the Steelers following a stellar senior season in which he finished third in the Heisman voting. He was a late bloomer in college, as he threw more TD passes in 2021 (42) than in his first four seasons combined (39). Pickett was among the most-sacked QBs in college and now joins a Steelers team that allowed nearly three times as many sacks in 2021 (38) than it allowed in 2020 (14). With a shaky O-line, Gibbs isn’t optimistic on Pickett being one of the 2022 Fantasy football breakouts.

“As far as Pickett’s Fantasy value goes, you can mark me down as not particularly enthused,” Gibbs told SportsLine. “I worry about his ability to hold the ball as long as he prefers behind Pittsburgh’s offensive line. I also don’t love the fact that he broke out at such a late age, or that he doesn’t offer much rushing upside.”

Desmond Ridder, Atlanta Falcons: Ridder left college as the AAC’s all-time leader in both total yards and TDs accounted for, and he parlayed that into being a third-round selection by Atlanta. He is in a battle with Marcus Mariota to replace stalwart Matt Ryan, and it’s a battle that the veteran has the edge on given his history with HC Arthur Smith. Gibbs notes that Ridder doesn’t do anything extraordinarily well, whether as a passer or a runner. He does have a chance to get meaningful playing time as a mid-round rookie, but Gibbs would only draft him in certain leagues.

“I’m not sure if Ridder has what it takes to be an above-average passer as a pro, and his rushing metrics really weren’t as exciting as I had hoped for,” Gibbs told SportsLine. “He has exciting weapons in Atlanta and a chance to start in Year 1, so Ridder isn’t a terrible investment in Dynasty formats or Superflex season-long leagues with deep benches.
