Over the Weekend Update: Langston University Dominates Arkansas Baptist

The Langston Lions roared to an impressive 42-0 victory over Arkansas Baptist this weekend, with quarterback Torrence Bardell delivering yet another electrifying performance. For the second consecutive week, Bardell threw five touchdown passes, cementing his status as one of the top players in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC). With this win, the Lions picked up their fifth straight victory, improving to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in SAC play.
The Lions set the tone early, with Bardell connecting on two big touchdown passes in the first quarter. Levon Williamshauled in a 32-yard strike, followed shortly by a 47-yard bomb to Ivory Wilright, giving Langston a quick 14-0 lead. Bardell didn’t let up, adding two more scores in the second quarter—a three-yard touchdown to Kevin Allen and a 20-yard strike to John Louis—to push the Lions’ lead to 27-0.
Bardell’s final touchdown pass of the day came on a 40-yard dart to David Hall, capping a dominant first-half performance with the Lions ahead 35-0 at halftime. Bardell finished the game completing 13 of 19 passes for 271 yardsand his five touchdowns earned him Player of the Game honors.
The Lions’ receiving corps delivered across the board, with Levon Williams leading the way at 80 yards on four receptions and a touchdown. On the defensive side, Langston was just as dominant, shutting out Arkansas Baptist and delivering big plays. James Grace and Armonnie Wise led the team in tackles with eight apiece, while Tre Odom and Travis Martin each recorded an interception, helping the Lions preserve the shutout.
This win keeps Langston firmly in the SAC title race as they prepare for their next challenge, a road game against Ottawa-Arizona in Surprise, Ariz. The Lions will look to extend their winning streak to six games when they take the field next Saturday at 8 p.m.
