Colorado football 2024 practice news: Camp storylines, schedule, Deion Sanders depth chart by Buffs insiders

Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes will try to improve on their 2023 record of 4-8 when they open their season on August 29 against North Dakota State at Folsom Field. The Colorado football roster will once again feature plenty of new faces, with the team adding a total of 55 new scholarship players during the offseason. The Buffs will be led by a trio of familiar faces, however, with quarterback Shedeur Sanders, wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter, and safety Shilo Sanders all back for their second seasons in the black and gold. Shilo Sanders has been a limited participant in practice thus far, as the senior continues to wear a non-contact jersey while he recovers from offseason shoulder surgery.

Several position battles are ongoing during fall camp that will help shape the 2024 Colorado football depth chart. How well the team gels before the season will go a long way towards determining whether the Buffs will go over or under their projected regular season win total of 5.5 games. If you want to see the latest Colorado football camp news, be sure to see what the proven team of insiders are saying at BuffStampede, the 247Sports affiliate that covers Colorado.

Top Colorado Buffaloes practice storylines

The Colorado offensive line took a beating on the field and in the media in 2023. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders was the most-sacked FBS quarterback and the Buffs ranked 130th averaging just 68.9 rushing yards per game. All five starters have since transferred or graduated, opening the door for an all new starting offensive line in 2024.

The Colorado football offensive line will feature one of the top recruits in program history in Jordan Seaton. The former five-star recruit is slated to start at left tackle for the Buffaloes as a true freshman. Seaton will be joined by a slew of transfers including Tyler Johnson (Houston) and Kahlil Benson (Indiana). Get more updates on how the Colorado offensive line depth chart is shaping up at BuffStampede

Another priority for the Buffs this offseason was getting better in the running game. While improving the offensive line will help, having a successful rushing attack will also help keep Shedeur Sanders upright more often in 2024. CU added transfers Dallan Hayden (Ohio State) and Isaiah Augustave (Arkansas) and signed true freshmen Micah Welch and Brandon Hood to compete with former walk-on Charlie Offerdahl for the top spot on the team’s running back depth chart. The team’s top four rushers from 2023 (Dylan Edwards, Anthony Hankerson, Sy’veon Wilkerson, and Alton McCaskill) all transferred to other programs.

Colorado will look to establish a 1-2 punch at running back before the team’s first game against North Dakota State. “[RB coach Gary Harrell] wants to identify two top backs going into the season, who will receive the bulk of the carries. It was the same approach he had going into the 2023 season, but due to offensive line struggles and scheme complications, the Buffs ground game never got churning,” Munsterteiger wrote on BuffStampede. Get the latest updates on the Colorado running back competition at BuffStampede.
